The Magic of The Mind-Body Connection

Treating complex trauma and ptsd

For hundreds of years the goal of practicing yoga has been to center and ground both body and mind. Now the unique meeting of energy and matter that takes place during a focused yoga session has become the nexus of serious scientific study, and is being used to treat complex trauma and PTSD.

Trauma-sensitive yoga

Innovative researchers are using yoga as the centerpiece in new and effective approaches to healing previously intractable and persistent traumas. Teri has studied with the leader in the field, the Trauma Center in Brookline, MA, working toward her certification in Trauma-Sensitive Yoga.

REAL CLIENTS SPEAK

“Teri knows how to tailor a yoga class for those for of us who have only worked out with a video, tried to duplicate poses in a book, or may have never even attempted the cat pose! I can already feel muscles strengthening, improved flexibility, and am paying attention to my breathing now!!! Looking forward to the next class!”  — Linda H.

TERI’S STORY

Teri discovered just how effective yoga can be in healing personal trauma in the aftermath of an abusive relationship, ending with her late husband taking his own life, leaving her with two girls to support. In her initial yoga training she learned how the body stores energy, trauma and grief, and the restorative power of the breath and meditation. Teri found yoga to be the real turning point in her healing, a place to bring her focus inward and just experience all the sensations happening in her body, and move beyond them. She knows it can be the same for you!

TERI'S BACKGROUND

Teri Devlin Maddox is a Registered Yoga Teacher, having completed a 500-hour course of training through Yoga Alliance. She’s also a CFM certified teacher of mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) and a graduate of the Transform Coaching Academy. She has completed a 20-hour training in Trauma-Sensitive Yoga, an innovative and research-backed methodology based on the mind-body connection that takes place during yoga to facilitate healing from complex trauma and PTSD. In addition, Teri is a coach for the non-profit Girls on the Run. She holds a Master of Arts in teaching and has taught K-5 students for 21 years, the last 16 of those as an art instructor.
